What happens after you submit, and when ID cards arrive
Who has your paperwork, what they are doing with it, and what to do if you need care first.
Where your form goes
Your form does not go straight to the insurance company. It takes four steps, and knowing them is usually enough to explain why an answer takes longer than you expected.
- Your employer confirms the list of everyone enrolling and everyone who waived.
- We put the group's paperwork together and send it to the general agent, which is the firm that holds the appointment with the carrier.
- The general agent submits it to the carrier.
- The carrier reviews the group, sets it up, and issues a group number.
The carrier is the one that decides
This is the part nobody can speed up, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Your employer does not issue the coverage and neither do we. The insurance company reviews the group, decides whether to write it, and issues it. Until they do, the coverage is not in place, however complete the paperwork is.
We chase it. If something is missing, we are usually the ones who find out first and come back to you for it.
When ID cards arrive
The carrier makes and sends the cards, not us. Most carriers post a digital card to their member site or app before the physical one reaches your mailbox, and the digital one works at a doctor's office.
How long it takes depends on the carrier and on your start date. We will not guess at a date for you, but we will tell you what the carrier has told us whenever you ask.
If you need care before your card arrives
Tell the office that your coverage is new and that the card has not arrived. They deal with this constantly. Your employer can confirm your group number and your start date, which is usually all a front desk needs.
If you are being asked to pay in full at the counter, call us before you do. There is often a better answer.
If something on the card is wrong
Send us a note at support@bindlyhealth.com with what is wrong and what it should say. A misspelled name or a missing dependent is a correction the carrier makes, and we will take it to them. Please do not include anything about your health or your care in that email. For that, call the benefits desk at (623) 257-7625.
Questions we did not answer
Email support@bindlyhealth.com. Tell us which step you are on and what the screen says. A person reads every message.
Anything about your health or your care goes to our benefits desk at (623) 257-7625 rather than to email.
